What can I expect during the treatment?
Treatment will take place here at Laser Perfection. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. A small handheld probe will glide over the treated areas and a laser pulse will be released.
Does it hurt?
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with the laser pulse, it's sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort is minimised by our machines cooling system.
How many treatments will I need?
Number of treatments does depend on your skin type and hair colour. To ensure the best results, having 6 - 8 treatments, 6 weeks apart and for the face we recommend treatments of 4 weeks apart.
How do I prepare for the treatment?
- Avoid the sun 2 weeks before and after treatment
- NO bleaching, tweezing or waxing hair 4-6 weeks prior to treatment
- Recently tanned skin cannot be treated; this includes natural sun and tanning booth (solariums)
- The use of self tanning skin products MUST be discontinued 2 weeks before treatment. Any residual from the self tanner should be removed prior to treatment
- Area being treated must be shaved prior to treatment (same day or night before)
- Skin needs to be cleaned prior to treatment, all make up and deodorant must be removed.
What precautions should I take after treatment?
- Immediately after treatment there should be erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) of each hair follicle in the treated area.
- This may last up to 2 hours or longer, Redness may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area will feel like sunburn for a few hours after treatment.
- A typical soothing skin care product such as aloe vera gel may be applied following treatment if desired.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation)
- Use sunblock (SPF 30+) at all times throughout the course of treatment
- Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) as this will disturb the hair follicle. Shaving is the preferred method of hair removal during treatment.
- Anywhere from 10-21 days after the treatment shedding of the treated hair may occur, this appears as new hair growth but this is not new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or sponge.
- With underarm treatments, you may wish to use powder instead of deodorants for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.
- We ask you have a cool shower or bath after treatment. Treat area as if you have sunburn for the first 24 hours of treatment
- Return back to LASER PERFECTION at the first sign of hair growth. This may be within 4-6 weeks. Hair regrowth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body.
- Feel free to call LASER PERFECTION with any questions or concerns you may have.
